Dremel 800003 10.8Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool

Brand Dremel
Model 8000-03
Price $61.00
Description Remember how cool we all thought that first Dremel was? We're reliving the feeling with this one: lighter, faster, smarter, better, and stronger. The main improvement over the last generation is the battery source: lithium-ion. There are so many reasons to applaud. Lithium holds its charge up to six times longer in storage than nickel-cadmium batteries, so it's ready when you are. Remember the disappointment when you were ready and your battery was low? That won't happen with this one. It's got a battery fuel gauge that tells you how much life is left before a recharge, so you won't be caught without your Dremel, and if you choose to keep it on its charger, you won't cause memory and shorten the charge capacity. It's small, it's light, it's comfortable and maneuverable; it's everything the corded models are, but without the cord. We love it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ....read more

This is a great product. It is much better than my old cordless Dremel, mostly due to the Lithium Ion battery & smaller size. I would advise anyone looking for a tool like this to buy one of this model.

I have a electrical Dremel tool I’ve had for years but wanted something battery operated to give me more freedom and portability when using the tool. The new 8000 has given me that. The 2- Lithion Ion batteries provide enough battery power to do any job at hand. The 8000 has lived up to Dremels long reputation of quality and inovative products.

I like others have used a Dremel for many years and the thought of a decent cordless model sounded great. Keep in mind this is cordless and does need to be recharged. Battery lasts about an hour on average use. I like the power of the 10.8 unlike the smaller less volt models which just didnt seem up to speed. Like others though I am on my third one so far in just over a year. The variable speed control has locked on the previous two at high speed. Any type of strain and the tool seems to overheat and short something out causing the variable speed to be useless and therefor the tool. Something is not right about the electroincs inside the tool and I have used my power model for years with out this problem. Cheap parts? At $70.00 bucks I think it could have a variable speed that is a little better designed. Make sure you save your receipt, the cordless model although usefull will neeed service sooner or later. Luckily it has a two year warranty I just wish it didnt need it, or Dremel would find a fix for this problem.

Dremel tool dies in 5 months!

I’ve owned several Dremel grinding tools in the past. In May 2009 I purchased this one. Although the battery is larger, it seems less powerful than my old model. As of October 2009, only 5 months later, the battery is completely dead and the charger no longer works to recharge it. It is unclear whether the charger or the battery is defective, but something is definitely not right. I am disappointed with the performance of this model and have contacted Dremel asking about a replacement. No word as to what they’ll do yet.Dremel 8000-03 10.8-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool

Bought at Home Depot on 10-17-06 for $69.99 + Tax. Worked OK, but did have the annoying battery life and shut-off/restart problems others write about. I was still happy with it until I pulled it out to use it this year. I turned the unit to on, but nothing happened. So, I tried to recharge the battery. Still nothing. Don’t know if it’s the charger or the battery. So, it’s dead after 3 years with very little use in the past 12 months. I was considering the Model 8000 as a replacement, since it’s the 10.8 V unit. Looks like I could use that battery for mine, if needed. But, I’ve read so many bad reviews on this site that I think I’ll pass. May go with a corded one the next time. For now, I don’t have a project that requires this. It was fun to use with my son on his pinewood derby car. Found other uses, too, but a corded one would have worked fine.

Iv owned this tool for about a year with little use. Tonight it failed me. I needed to cut though some drywall aparently this thing is not sealed verywell becuase the motor speed switch shorted then the motor finaly gave way. I assuming the drywall dust did its part. Well what a waste of my money. I bought this muti purpose tool so that I can use it on whatever comes around. well I am going to buy the older corded dremel and have at it. Herd they hold up forever. NICE job dremel what a piece of junk.

    Really nice Dremel upgrade

This thing is fabulous. I have had a regular Dremel for years, and loved it. This is even better. Initially I was worried how it would stack up to corded, but honestly you’d never know it was a battery model. Great power, long lasting battery. Nice accessory kit. Has made most of my projects MUCH easier now that no cord worries. GO BUY IT!

If you’re looking for a powerful and portable rotary/drill without busting your budget, get this! The power control wheel is perfect for choosing just the right speed for your job and the compact size allows you to squeeze this in where a typical drill won’t go. The battery lasts a long time and will hold its charge when it’s stored.

Wonderful product for medium / heavy work!

I purchased this as an upgrade to my previous cordless Dremel – the 7.2 volt 7700-01. The 7.2 volt Dremel wouldn’t do the job with metal, glass, or porcelain work. I was hoping this model would provide the extra *umph* I needed. I was right! This Dremel makes short work of anything I throw at it. I sawed through a thick aluminum tube in about 20 seconds with little to no pressure. It leaves a flat, perfect cut. It did get the aluminum really hot – hot enough that I didn’t want to hold it. The lithium battery is a big upgrade from the NiCad ones. Also, the battery meter and speed controls are a nice upgrade. It is quite a bit bigger than the 7.2 volt Dremel, but the manual says it will work with the Flex Shaft, so that is ok. Overall, this is a MUCH better tool than the 7.2 volt Dremel – get this one – it’s worth the extra money!

Ordered this because my wife has “drafted” my corded , two year old Dremel. I love the portability and see no weaknesses that effect my use. Excellent product, highly recommend.
