fits all Dremel tools, as far as I can determine, and does the job

You can’t use a bit with out the collet

The past reviewer more than likely has the fine polishing, drill bits and other specialty bits dremel offers or may be useing non dremel bits. I’ve found unless you have the wrench or a strong grip the adjustable collet (chuck) loosens under vibrations and is sometimes to large to work in tight or close spaces…

Just having the extra collets set…

…makes this a great deal. Yeah the chuck is great, get one of those too. And when you come to an item that you can’t use with the chuck, smile at the people who rated this item so low and are standing in line at HD or Lowe’s to get this set. My advise get both.

    Skip this, get a chuck.

Forget about collets and nuts. Spend the extra few bucks and get a keyless chuck. You don’t need to fumble around trying to find the right collet; the keyless chuck works just like a drill chuck – it opens / closes to the correct size without changing the collet. You won’t believe the time and frustration you’ll save.

The quick change collet nut comes with every Dremel rotary tool but if you loose one you’re sunk. It’s good to have an extra one on hand in case the unthinkable happens.

    Indispensable part of the Dremel

You really can’t use the Dremel to its fullest without the Dremel collet nut. The Dremel Chuck is nice, especially if you are always changing accessory bits because the Chuck helps save time. I like the collet nut because nothing holds the bit tighter than the proper sized collet along with a collet nut. I use my Dremel hard, and the collet and collet nut makes sure the bit does not work loose.

Pass this by and get the chuck instead

Change out different collets to fit different diameter Dremel bits? I don’t think so. You’ll save yourself quite a bit of time, energy, and frustration if you get the Dremel 4486 MultiPro chuck instead.

The chuck costs a bit more, but if you do projects that require constant bit changes, it’ll be well worth the money.
