Dremel 398101 Professional 1.15 amp Digital Variable Speed
Brand Dremel Model 3981-01 Price $156.00 Description Dremel came out with the first rotary tool long ago, and this professional model, the latest evolutionary leap in the Dremel line, is a great tool for a huge range of projects, from home improvement tasks to hobbies and crafting. Its new soft-start technology, electronic controls, and ergonomic grip make it easier and more comfortable to use than any other rotary tool we've tried. It has a continuously adjustable speed range from 5,000 to 30,000 rpm, with a precise speed gauge, allowing the user to effectively work with materials as soft as balsa wood and as hard as ceramics. And we really like the innovative electronic feedback control on this model, which takes the jerk and torque out of lower-speed applications. Another great feature of this kit (that Dremel's other MotoTools could benefit from) is the 10-foot long cord, which lets you maneuver without reaching the end of your leash. The kit also comes with a huge assortment of accessories and a handy carrying case. If you're looking for the smoothest and easiest-to-operate rotary tool on the market, look no further. Dremel's professional kit is as good as it gets. --Brian Trinen ....read more Buy Now |

Another Expensive Shelf Ornament
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
After you buy this gadget, you’ll discover that they make most of their profit in the endless attachments you have to buy to get it to do what you want. Definitely don’t buy it for heavy-duty projects like routing. It did help me cut through some aluminum bars, though slowly.
Bill’s Dremel
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Purchase to receipt, I have no complaints with this transaction. This is my second Dremel, gave the first to my son. It has functioned without a flaw.
Decent Tool
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Feels like a good quality tool. I gave it 4-stars for two minor reasons;
1. it would have been nice if it had a variable thumb roller for varying speeds during operation (not a big deal though).
2. the precision of the motor is just not quite what I would call “harmonically balanced”. It has a ever so slight crunchy/crackling sound to the motor (at least mine), but, it does not appear to impede the utility of the device.
A worthy purchase.
Great Tool
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am on my second Dremel 3981-01 due to the great duribility of this tool. I used the first one so much I wore the thing out after many years of use. I liked it so much I decided to buy another and work on wearing this one out also, it will take me a few years to get to that point. One of the best Dremel’s made.
Very good rotary tool
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is one of six such tools that I own, and one of four this size.
I like all of the functions except the slide switch – that is why I gave it a four. The one that I have with a rocker-switch is much handier for me.
a very good tool
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I use this tool frequently. It is very durable, easy to operate and do the job well. It came with 50 or so accessories for the common tasks. However, it doesn’t include some accessories which maybe are important to you, such as shaft, mini saw attachment, or blade sharpener attachment. For those things, you have to buy separately.
$72.15 instead of the $1000 professional regrouting bill
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I got an estimate for $1000 to regrout my small bathroom so I decided to do it myself. The manufacturer recommends using attachments 568-570 for this job but warns that this tool is only good for small jobs such as removing six tiles otherwise you will go through multiple attachments to finish the job. For an entire bathroom, the manufacturer recommends their Rotozip with the Zipmate accessory Dry Diamond Wheel and warns against touching the tile. Since I am not coordinated, I am starting with a $6 grout saw before I purchase this corded tool.
Dremel and Thompson sub-machine gun.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a Thompson sub-machine gun which uses a 50 round drum magazine. I recently lost the winding key from the drum and ordered a replacement. When the key arrived it did not fit and required custom fitting. This was no problem with my Dremel 3981-01 and Aluminum Oxide bit. I more than paid for my Dremel with this one use versus the cost for a gunsmith to do the work!
This Dremel is definately a 5 Star.
Best Dremel to date
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is by far their best. I read the reviews here then bought it. You Want This One. Not sure if other reviewers mentioned, but the nose unscrews to reveal the standard thread for things like router bases.
I’ve had many Dremels over the years. I’ve even picked up a few “antique” ones from their early years. Cute for a few quick jobs like rubber wheel to polish carving tool edges, and nice to know they still run, but for hours of routing, get this one. Dial in just the right speed for bit and material and away you go. With much less noise too.
Now, as for dating your Dremel …. well
Exactly what I expected…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
..after reading many positive reviews first. I’ve had my 3981 for 2+ years and it’s been handy for things I can and can’t do with my other tools. Quality is very good, feels solid and like it will last. I like the electronic variable speed control and the soft start. Don’t have the shaky switch problem that another reviewer had mentioned.
So far I use it to sharpen the lawn mower blade, make drywall cutouts for electrical outlets, trim the dogs nails, and probably half a dozen other little tasks.
The only drawback is that is has a cord(!) so we’ve decided to get the lithium cordless version as well.
